Tracing the history of the Hodgetts family.

Thomas Webb

OlOld Manor House, Lillington 1910s, Warwickshire County Record Office

Thomas Webb was a gentleman farmer at Lillington manor farm in Warwickshire. He owned additional property at Napton on the Hill. In 1753, he married Mary Smith from Weston-under-Wetherley.

Little more is currently known of them except that Thomas survived Mary by fourteen years. They are buried at Lillington where a church plaque commemorates them.

Children of Thomas Webb & Mary Smith

Thomas and Mary had three daughters and one son:

  • Mary Webb (1754-1829) remained single until the age of 51 when she married Lant Campion (1755-1816).
  • Elizabeth Webb (1756-1833) married Booth Hodgetts—more on her shortly.
  • Sarah Webb (1758-1812) married John Lynes from a very well-connected family.
  • Thomas was born and died in 1760.

In the absence of a surviving son, the three daughters were heiresses. Sarah and Elizabeth’s families were close—so close in fact that Sarah’s grandson woul marry Elizabeth’s granddaughter.
